Russia threatened to block the site “The YouTube “ If two German-language channels are no longer supported by the Russian state, they will be removed for violating the coronavirus vaccine guidelines.
In a statement, the Russian media censorship agency accused YouTube of censorship and demanded that the channels be returned.
At the same time, Russia called on UNESCO to respond immediately to YouTube’s actions in a statement released by the Permanent Mission of Russia to the international organization via Twitter.
She said she strongly condemns the “informational aggression” against two media outlets, and reserves the right to raise this issue at the UNESCO Executive Committee meeting scheduled for next month.
The Russian-German-speaking channel RT DE had already received a warning from YouTube for violating disinformation guidelines regarding the coronavirus, and they were suspended for a week from their publication on the platform.
Meanwhile, the channel used a second channel – Der Fehlende Part – to upload content that also violated these policies, Western media reported, and as a result, both were removed by YouTube.
It is reported that last August, YouTube suspended Sky News Australia from working on the platform for a week after posting videos denying the existence of the Corona virus and encouraging the use of unproven treatments and possibly dangerous substances such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.
YouTube toughens its policy
This comes at a time when YouTube has expanded its disinformation policies to include all effective vaccines, not just Corona vaccines.
The tech company said the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, which is mistakenly attributed to the origin of autism, was an example of the types of content the new policy would cover that was previously authorized.
YouTube primarily implements measures to tackle media misinformation about Corona vaccines, and it confirms it removed more than 130,000 videos a year ago that violate its rules in this area.
